Dogs are known for their keen senses and ability to pick up on changes in their environment, including changes in their human family members.
While they may not have a deep understanding of the concept of labour as humans do, they can often sense the physical and emotional changes that occur when a person is about to go into labour, so do you think dogs know when labour is close?

Here are some ways dogs might react or exhibit signs of awareness when their owner is about to go into labour:
Change in Behaviour: Some dogs may become more protective or attentive to their pregnant owner as her due date approaches. They might become more affectionate or follow her around more closely.
Sensitivity to Hormonal Changes: Dogs have a highly developed sense of smell, and they can detect changes in hormones and pheromones that occur during pregnancy and labour. This heightened sense of smell might lead them to act differently around a pregnant person.
Restlessness: Some dogs may become more restless or anxious as labuor approaches. They may sense the anticipation and heightened activity in the household.
Nesting Behaviour: In some cases, dogs might exhibit nesting behaviour, similar to when they are preparing for their own puppies. They might gather toys or blankets around the pregnant owner.
Alertness: Dogs may become more alert and vigilant, as if they sense that something important is happening.
I have noticed this first hand with one of my clients, mumma messaged me a video of her dog rufus acting really strange towards her, them BOM 24 hours she was in labour. They know for sure!
